NATIONAL/STATE SCHOLARSHIPS
Undergraduate scholarships are forms of aid that help students pay for an education. Unlike loans, they do not have to be repaid. Scholarships are funded from a variety of sources including community organizations, local and national foundations, state and federal government agencies and private donors. A good source of scholarship information may be your chosen college/university and the Web sites of professional associations in your academic disciplines. Personalized scholarship searches are available on the Web at the following websites www.finaid.org, www.fastweb.com, http://www.utsa.edu/scholarships/searchsch.cfm, www.scholarships.com, and www.scholarshipexperts.com.
To avoid being a victim of a private scholarship scam, students and their families should keep in mind the following tips: If you must pay money to get money, it is probably a scam. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Spend time, not money. Never invest more than a postage stamp to get information about a scholarship. Nobody can guarantee that you'll win a scholarship. Legitimate scholarship foundations do not charge a fee. If you are suspicious of an offer, it is usually with good reason. Check out these websites and make sure you are not falling victim to a scam. www.ftc.gov/scholarshipscams and www.studentaid.ed.gov/lsa.
*Scholarships offered by anyone other than local organizations are posted on this website for student information only and are not endorsed or guaranteed by TPHS.
